At the same time, in the application process of producing water-based paints, a large amount of additives must be added to achieve the desired effect, further increasing the overall production cost of water-based industrial paints.

     

    Dr. Yu Guo believes that the lack of internal support and external factors can only achieve twice the result with half the effort. He believes that the external factors of the policy have created an environment for the "oil to water" transformation, and to accelerate its progress, it is necessary to focus on solving the problem of water paint production costs. To this end, he led the Changmu Technology team to accelerate their research and development efforts towards water-based resins. Through unremitting efforts, their waterborne polyurethane modified alkyd resin, waterborne acrylic resin dispersion, waterborne alkyd baking paint resin and other products have gradually taken shape and quickly gained successful applications in the market. Case feedback shows that water-based paint produced from this raw material meets paint standards in multiple aspects such as corrosion resistance and water resistance.

     

    What is even more gratifying is that Changmu Technology has made technological breakthroughs in the field of water-based resins, which not only reduces the production cost and market price of water-based resins, but also changes the current situation of adding a large amount of additives to produce water-based paints using domestic resins. This greatly reduces the production cost of water-based industrial paints in two directions, so that they can be on par with paints in terms of formulation cost. If we consider the cost reduction of "water solvent" dilution, compared to oil-based paints, the cost advantage of using this resin to produce water-based industrial paints becomes increasingly prominent.

     

    The industry believes that if the cost issue at the formulation level can be solved, water-based industrial paint can save more than 20% of production costs compared to paint based solely on the cost calculation in the dilution direction. Dr. Guo is confident in this goal. He pointed out that "better application effects and lower production costs will become the endogenous driving force for industrial paint production enterprises to actively 'oil to water', and this is precisely the core value of Changmu Technology's water-based resin products

     

    Serve the 400 billion yuan water-based paint market

    In May 2016, newly established Changmu Technology won the special prize at the 3rd Global New Materials Industry Competition in Ningbo, China. Their project "Research and Sales of Air drying Self crosslinking Water based Resin" received widespread recognition, and the judges generally believed that high-performance water-based resin products would overturn the traditional paint market.

     

    Indeed, relevant analysis suggests that if all types of paints in the country are replaced by water-based paint, the market sales are expected to exceed 400 billion yuan. Dr. Yu Guo believes that based on the cost savings achieved by the application of Changmu Technology products in water-based paint production, the widespread use of water-based industrial paint will save the country a considerable amount of expenses.

     

    It is reported that Changmu Technology, led by Professor Cui Wenguo, a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University, has formed a specialized R&D team consisting of R&D executives from Fortune 500 companies and multiple master's and doctoral students in the field of chemical engineering. Currently, they have 20 invention patents. The company is the drafting and formulation unit of the existing national industry standards "Water based Alkyd Resin for Coatings", "Water based Anti corrosion Coatings for Steel Structures", and "Coating and Acceptance Standards for Water based Anti corrosion Coatings for Industrial Building Steel Structures". Dr. Yu Guo, the young chairman of Changmu Technology, has also become a member of the National Coatings and Pigments Standardization Committee and the National Waterborne Industrial Coatings and Coating Industry Committee.

     

    The scientific operation mode and strong scientific research team have laid the foundation for the development of the enterprise. Currently, Changmu Technology has obtained multiple rounds of equity investments from Tsinghua Tongfang, Guoyu Capital, Houyao Capital, etc. It has a 100 acre production base in Shaoxing Binhai Industrial Zone, Zhejiang, and has built a 2000 square meter domestic first-class water-based resin research and development center and an annual output of 20000 tons of water-based resin production line.
